Veera Dheera Sooran Story

This is the story of Veera Dheera Sooryan: Part 2, in which Kalli (Vikram) is a former gangster who is now living a quiet life with his wife Kalai (Dushara Vijay) and runs a grocery store. The story begins on the night of a temple festival in Madurai, where tensions escalate between SP Arungiri and former mafia don Ravi (Prashanth Raj). Ravi hatches a plot to eliminate Arungiri and seeks the help of his old partner Kalli for this.

Though Kalli has left the crime world, he agrees to help Ravi under pressure and persuasion. But the plan fails as the YAMM fails to trigger and Kalli’s partner Venkat collapses due to an epileptic attack. After the failure, Ravi’s son Kannan (Suraj Venjaramoodu) threatens Kalli and his family.

A flashback reveals that Kalli’s close friend Dilip was murdered by Ravi. Kalli then decides to take revenge and kills Ravi and his son-in-law. Presently, he gives information about Kannan to Arunagiri. Eventually, Kalli kills Kannan when he finds out that he is the real traitor. At the end of the film, when Ravi and his family confront Kalli, Kalli kills them all using yams and tells his wife that he did all this to protect his family. Movie Review

Veera Dheera Sooran: Part 2 is a raw, rustic and powerful story that deals with greed, power, survival, revenge and the struggle for survival in a realistic way. The story revolves around a family man Kalli (Vikram) who is living a quiet and normal life. But his past pulls him back to the dark path he once wanted to get out of. Director S. U. Arun Kumar has written a strong, down-to-earth screenplay and has utilized the abilities of every actor to the fullest.

The first half of the film lays the foundation of the story and gradually adds depth to the plot. The second half adds height to the story with some sequences that leave the audience spellbound. The film has a fine portrayal of brotherhood, selfishness and conflict.

Vikram has given a brilliant performance and the various shades of his character have been presented very well. After a long time, Vikram’s hard work and dedication has found the right use in a powerful film. Dushara Vijay has also given an impressive performance and his chemistry with Vikram seems believable. S.J. Suryah has given a strong performance as the police officer, especially the variation in his voice is very impressive. Suraj Venjaramoodu, Balireddy Prithviraj and Mala Parvathi have also performed well.

Theni Eswar’s cinematography has managed to bring a raw and real feel. However, some viewers found the frequent panning and back-forth movement of the camera a bit uncomfortable, which at times made it feel like a ballet dance. Some scenes could have been more effective with better shot division.

On the downside, the story is quite thin and stretched too much. The film is told in the story of one night, but the events shown in it seem to need weeks to complete. Many characters are not explored in depth and some events are not established properly, which does not create a tense atmosphere consistently.

Some viewers found the look of Sooraj’s younger avatar to be ordinary and the performance of the actor playing his father lacked depth. But Venkat’s (the character with epilepsy) performance was noteworthy.

Overall, the film is a good effort, full of realism and acting, but the screenplay and direction could have used a little more effort. Hopefully the prequel or sequel will be better than this and present the story in more depth.

Conclusion

Veera Dheera Sooran: Part 2 is a powerful and realistic film that is strong in acting, direction and technical aspects. Vikram’s performance is the soul of the film and he once again proves why he is a great actor. The emotional and action-packed second half of the film keeps the audience captivated. Though the story seems slow at some places and the shot division has room for improvement, overall it is a worth watching experience. If you like films with serious subjects and deep characters, then this film is a must watch.
