Fun Facts of Movie

Directed by S. Shankar and starring Ram Charan, ‘Game Changer’ is a large-scale political action drama that covers the ultimate friendship between an artist, power politics and the fight of an honest officer in society. The film, made on a massive budget of ₹350–425 crore, also marks Shankar’s Telugu debut, showcasing his distinctive visual style and a story with a social message. Ram Charan not only plays an honest IAS officer Ram Nandan in the film, but also displays his acting depth by playing his father Appanna—an idealistic leader. Kiara Advani, Anjali, S.J. Suryah, Srikanth and others play pivotal roles. While the film’s cinematography, music (by Thaman S) and grand production values are impressive, the film fails to live up to the expectations of the audience due to weak screenplay, excessive melodrama and long duration. ‘Game Changer’ starts with a good idea, but due to the heavy storyline and unnecessary complications, it eventually turns out to be an average experience.

Game Changer Story

“Game Changer” is a political action drama film directed by S. Shankar. The film is the story of an honest and courageous IAS officer Ram (played by Ram Charan) who dreams of bringing a change in the country’s political system.

Ram believes that corruption cannot be eradicated unless there is transparency in the electoral process. He fights for the implementation of the “Right to Recall” so that people can remove their elected leaders mid-term due to poor performance. During this campaign, he encounters many political opponents and corrupt officials.

The film also features Ram Charan in a double role-one as an action-packed young leader and the other as a sensible administrative officer. The story has a good mix of romance, action and drama. Kiara Advani, Anjali, S.J. Suryah and Srikanth play supporting roles.

The film’s music is composed by Thaman S, and its cinematography is done by Thiru. The film has been shot in India as well as Japan, Malaysia, Cambodia and New Zealand.

Although the film was made on a budget of ₹350–425 crores, it failed at the box office and received mixed to negative reviews. This was Shankar’s first Telugu film and audiences had high expectations from it, but the presentation and length of the story made the film lose its grip.

Movie Review

“Game Changer” is a high-octane Telugu action drama that has created a buzz among the audiences for its fast-paced story, strong acting and social message. Director Shankar has once again tried to present serious issues like administrative system, corruption and political reforms through entertainment in a big budget film.

Ram Charan is seen in the role of an honest and courageous IAS officer in the film, who comes up with ideas like “Right to Recall” to reform the system. His acting is the main highlight of the entire film. Ram Charan has proved with his charismatic performance that he is not only adept at action but can also play characters raising social issues effectively.

Many critics have criticized the film and given it a rating of one star, which is quite disappointing. A viewer said that when most of the films of today focus only on dark tones, exaggeration of the hero and violence, “Game Changer” comes out as a colorful, family-friendly entertaining film. Though the film has some old-fashioned comedy and outdated direction ideas, it won’t be wrong to say that no Indian film is perfect.

The pace of the film is so fast that some important elements are not explained properly. The story could have been more effective if a little more care was taken in editing. Still, there are many aspects of the film that can be counted as its strengths-Ram Charan’s performance, S.J. Surya, Kiara Advani, Anjali, and Thaman S’s music. All these actors succeed in taking the film to new heights.

A critic, Dr. Mahalakshmi Naidu, called the film a “Telugu masterpiece” and said that the film is a “thrilling ride” that presents a perfect amalgamation of action, emotion and stunning cinematography. She called it a “masterclass in cinematic storytelling”.

Though the story may seem a bit dated and some of director Shankar’s ideologies may seem a bit backwards for today’s audience, he may get back on track as soon as he adapts to the new ideas of current filmmaking.

Finally, this film is definitely worth a watch. There is no vulgarity, no unnecessary romance or violence, making this a family friendly watch.

Rating: 3.5/5

Conclusion

“Game Changer” is an entertaining film with a social message that highlights the flaws of the current political and administrative system. Ram Charan’s performance is impressive and even though Shankar’s direction seems dated at some places, the film still manages to keep the audience engaged. Action, emotional moments and great music are its main strengths. This film is a family watch and is a refreshing departure from the stereotypical films of today. If you want to watch a thought-provoking film along with entertainment, then this is a good choice.
