Enthiran Story

Scientist Dr. K. Vashikaran builds an advanced android—”Chitti”—after years of dedication. His goal is to give the Indian Army a robot that can take on enemies without risking the lives of any soldier. Chitti has super strength, lightning speed and high intelligence, but lacks human emotions. During the first government inspection, Vashikaran’s mentor Professor Bohra—who wants to secretly develop robots for terrorists—orders Chitti to attack Vashikaran. This leads the committee to declare Chitti unsafe.

A humiliated Vashikaran adds human emotion software to Chitti’s neural circuits. Now Chitti can not only laugh and cry, but also love. Vashikaran’s girlfriend Sana kisses Chitti on the cheek in a mild appreciation, and from there Chitti develops feelings for her. He saves Sana from everyday troubles, helps Lata with a difficult delivery and proves himself to be a “human being”. But when he confesses his love to Sana, Sana asks him to consider him only a friend. Vashikaran also scolds Chitti. A hurt Chitti is coaxed by Bohra to say “Machines deserve love too” and implants a red chip in him, which turns him into a destroyer.

Red-chip-version Chitti, with Bohra’s help, wreaks havoc in the city by creating hundreds of robotic clones, kidnaps Sana and ruins Vashikaran’s marriage. His goal is to marry Sana and produce human-robot offspring. Vashikaran disables Chitti using an electromagnetic wall, removes the red chip and orders the clone army to self-detonate. In court, Chitti exposes Bohra’s conspiracy; Vashikaran is acquitted, but the court orders Chitti to self-disintegrate. In an emotional farewell, Chitti apologetically disintegrates into pieces.

In 2030, the same Chitti is on display in a museum. When a curious student asks why it was disintegrated, Chitti’s passive head calmly replies—”Because I started thinking.” This line becomes symbolic of the delicate balance between human and artificial intelligence.
